Mould

In science we are learning about all about mould.

We have been reading about good and bad moulds. We have learnt about how Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin from some mould on bread. We know that penicillin is a type of antibiotic medicine that destroys bad bacteria that can make us sick.

Today, we explored mould on cheese. We tasted some blue cheese. The blue cheese had lots of thin veins of mould through it. We picked up little pieces of the cheese on toothpicks to notice what the mould on the cheese looked like, smelt like and finally, tasted like!

Campbell being a brave scientist
This cheese stinks!
"I can do this, I can do this," thinks Georgina.
"This mouldy cheese isn't as bad as I thought!"
"This is absolutely disgusting! I need water, quick!"
"Really, Mrs Ramsay, you are really going to make me eat this?"
We want to know how mould grows. Our question is: What are the best conditions for growing mould? We are going to do an experiment to explore how temperature, light and moisture help mould to grow. Keep checking out our blog to see what happens with our experiment!
